What Is Psychological Assessment?

Psychological assessment is a structured, evidence-based process that uses validated testing instruments, clinical interviews, and behavioral observation to develop a detailed picture of how you think, process information, regulate attention, and experience the world. Unlike a brief screening, a full evaluation goes beneath the surface and examines cognitive strengths and challenges, ruling out competing explanations, and offering a diagnosis (when appropriate) grounded in data.

Our assessments are conducted by a licensed psychologist and are individualized to your specific questions and concerns. We don't use a one-size-fits-all battery; we tailor the evaluation to what matters most to you.

Our Specialization: Adult ADHD Evaluations

ADHD is one of the most underidentified and misunderstood conditions in adults. Many adults lived for decades without answers - struggling with focus, follow-through, time management, or emotional regulation and being told it was simply a matter of effort or discipline. It isn't.

We specialize in adult ADHD evaluations because we know how much a clear diagnosis can change a person's life. When you finally understand why certain tasks are harder for you, you can stop blaming yourself and start building strategies that actually work. Our evaluations are thorough, compassionate, and designed to capture the full complexity of how ADHD presents in adults, including how it often looks different from the textbook picture, especially in women and individuals who have developed strong compensatory strategies over time.

The Assessment Process

While every evaluation is individually tailored, a comprehensive assessment at Peace of Mind typically consists of the following phases:

Clinical Interview

We begin with an in-depth conversation about your history, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from the evaluation. This includes developmental history, academic and occupational background, and any prior diagnoses or treatments. Session length is 60-120 minutes.

Testing

Psychological testing will be conducted using standardized measures appropriate to the referral questions. Testing sessions may take place over one or more appointments depending on the kinds of tests used and the nature of your concerns. Each testing session lasts 60-120 minutes, although may be extended as needed.

Feedback Session

After scoring and analyzing your results, we meet with you to walk through the findings in plain language. This session is scheduled 1-2 weeks after testing is complete and lasts between 30-60 minutes. You'll leave with a clear picture of the results, what they mean, and what we recommend.

Written Report

You'll receive a comprehensive written report documenting your evaluation results, diagnostic impressions, and tailored recommendations suitable for sharing with physicians, employers, academic institutions, or other providers as needed.
